3rd class trip to Ennis:Are tour leader was Jane O Brien. The O ‘Briens were the kings of Munster at the time. Our first stop was at O Connell’s monument known as “The Height” or “The Square”. We heard about a lady called Biddy Early who had four husbands who all died before her. She was tried for witchcraft. She had a blue bottle that she could look into and it would tell her the future. On our way to the cathedral we saw a shoe scraper. The Old Ground used to be a jail. We then went to the market. Here in the olden days they used to hang men for committing crimes. Punishment for ladies was dunking them in and out of the River Fergus!! There used to be a fine for milking cows on the streets of Ennis! We then went the Abbey and got a tour of this by a lady called Aoife. We had a really good day and learned lots about Ennis in the olden times. Thanks to Amy for taking us and the parents who came along too.
